Sustainable Practices
Below is a sampling of the sustainable practices adopted by the Certified Participant. Viticulture
Farming the vines according to the proper grade and with a site and variety specific farm plan helps ensure optimum vine balance and high quality wines.
Soil Management
Cover crops serve many important functions, including prevention of soil erosion and providing an inviting habitat for beneficial insects.
Pest Management
By providing habitat for owls we help keep our gopher populations down. We also make use of a falconer to keep pest birds away from our ripening grapes.
Wine Quality
Through painstaking site selection, pre-plant analysis, proper rootstock and Clonal selections and regulated irrigation our vineyards have the moderated vigor required for great wines.
Ecosystem Management
By installing “leaky” fences we can keep neighbor’s cattle out of our vineyards, while opening a wildlife corridor, providing food, water and habitat for numerous native species.
